She's back! Meteorologist Laura Velasquez is returning to West Michigan!

In a Facebook post on Saturday, February 6th, Laura wrote: "I am coming home, West Michigan!!! Wow, I have waited so long to say that and it feels great! There is still so much to do, but I'll see ya on TV in just a couple weeks. In the meantime, stay warm and safe and keep an eye on the forecast here."

Laura started her TV broadcasting career at WOOD TV-8 here in Grand Rapids. She began her on-air weather forecasting in August of 2007. In July of 2014 she made the move west, to Denver, Colorado to take a job at KDVR/KWGN.

She remained in Denver until she was offered a job at AccuWeather in September of 2015. She worked at AccuWeather until she was laid off, via email, on April 1st of last year (It would be an awful April Fools Day joke, but unfortunately it was real.)

Friday, February 5th was National Weatherperson's Day. On Fox 17's Facebook page they posted the following...

You will notice the addition of Laura Velasquez to their line-up of meteorologists beginning on Monday, February 15th! Laura will be joining Chief Meteorologist Kevin Craig, along with the other staff meteorologists Candance Monacelli, Eric Kostrzewa, and Anthony Domol. Missing from the staff is Ty Shesky, who announced in January that he was moving to Saginaw to take a job outside of the world of TV. His last day on the air at Fox 17 was January 16th...

Welcome back home to West Michigan Laura, We've missed you. And Best of Luck to Ty on his new job on the other side of the state with his new wife Holly.
