Kiki is Our Pet of the Week on Wet Nose Wednesday
Brianna from the Humane Society of West Michigan wasn't able to come into the studio this morning due, of course, to the COVID-19, but talked on the phone with me about Kiki!
November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and we still have lots in our shelter looking for loving homes! This week’s senior spotlight is Kiki, a 13-year-old Silver Paws kitty!
Kiki is a tiny delight, a sweet soft girl who appreciates a gentle approach and is looking for someone willing to give her time and space to adjust. As soon as she feels safe, she’s all purrs and personality! Poor Kiki has been patiently waiting to find her furever family for almost half a year, and hopes to find it soon! Kiki enjoys naps in the sun, being petted while she relaxes, and she loves to sink into her plush cat bed at the end of the day.
If you're interested in giving Kiki a home to live out her golden years, please visit our website at https://www.hswestmi.org/adoptablecats.html

Gearing up for Giving Tuesday
December 1 is Giving Tuesday! On this global day of giving we hope you will support HSWM. We rely solely on donations and need your support! Your donations provide food, shelter, medical, and behavioral support that is critical to animals in our care until they step out of our doors to their next adventure. This year, we have Chow Hound Pet Supplies and an anonymous donor matching donations dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000! Make your gift have double the impact!

We know that COVID-19 has impacted all aspects of our lives. It has taken so much from our community. One thing it should not be able to take is someone's ability to care for their beloved pet. HSWM is proud to be a partner with 10 local food pantries and is excited to launch a new partnership with Pleasant Hearts Food Pantry and Grand Rapids Pitbull Alliance to help provide cat and dog food to families that have fallen into financial hardship. At HSWM, we see that financial strain is a reason for surrender often and we want to support our community and the pets in it.
If you are able to, please consider helping us to support the community, consider donating a bag of cat or dog food to our Kibble Konnection program. It can be any kind and any brand. To make a food donation, please drop off items in the donation bin in our entryway, and write KK or Kibble Konnection on the bag. Thank you for supporting pets in need throughout your community!
We are aware of the high number of cases of COVID-19 in our community and we are taking precautions accordingly, as we take the safety of our guests and our staff very seriously.
We are allowing adopters into the building at a limited capacity, so please be understanding if there is a bit of a wait before you can enter to visit the animals in our care. Our customer service team routinely disinfects and cleans between adopters, and we also require the public to wear masks properly during their entire visit to our building. The pets in our care are used to seeing staff wearing our masks every day, so don't worry about scaring them! It's essential for the safety of our guests and our staff for masks to be worn properly throughout the entirety of your visit with us, as we want to keep everyone healthy!
This Thanksgiving, we would like to express how grateful we are for all of the support the Grand Rapids community has shown us! Since we have been open for walk-in adoptions, HSWM has adopted out over 200 pets! We want you to know we appreciate your passion for adoption and for helping so many pets find their furever homes!
We also want to remind adopters that we are closed this upcoming Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday, but will be open again on Saturday for adoptions. Thank you again for your outstanding support in these uncertain times, we could not do the work that we do without this wonderful community behind us!
