On Thursday morning, August 2nd, 2018, we talked with Phil Gable, the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator at Heart of West Michigan United Way, about how you can help "Stuff the Bus" with school supplies!

Each year, United Way’s "Stuff the Bus" provides tens of thousands of school supplies to K-12 schools in Kent County., This year, items will be distributed to elementary & middle schools in Grand Rapids, Kentwood, Wyoming, Cedar Springs, Kenowa Hills, and Sparta.

Many working families struggle to make ends meet and are unable to afford the extras like school supplies. Teachers often have to purchase supplies for their students with their own money. United Way hopes to help ease the financial burden of the teachers.

You can get involved by starting a collection in your workplace, church, school, etc. Companies can register at hwmuw.org/stuffthebus

Drop-off school supplies between now Monday, August 6th at Heart of West Michigan United, located at 118 Commerce Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI (Hours: 8 am-5 pm Monday-Thursday and 8 am-12 Noon on Friday). Collection sites are also at Menard's on Alpine Ave and all West Michigan Macatawa Bank locations during business hours.

In addition to basic school supplies (such as crayons, paper, pencils), United Way is also collecting scientific calculators, Kleenex, dry erase markers, hand sanitizers.

Help out this weekend and let's "Stuff the Bus"!
