A day after serving food at the grand opening of his new restaurant in Detroit, our own Slim Shady was named to perform at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show in Los Angeles.

The game will be played at SoFi Stadium on February 13, 2022.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers will join hip hop legends Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre to headline the show with featured performers Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar.

Halftime sponsor Pepsi tweeted the lineup Thursday.

The show will be produced by Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z.

The Super Bowl will air on NBC (locally WOOD-TV 8)and Telemundo and stream on Peacock.

Eminem has yet to comment as of this writing about his selection.

The last Michigan resident to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show was Madonna back in 2012 at Super Bowl XLVI.

So how many total Michigan residents have performed at Super Bowl halftime shows?

Quite a few actually, especially if you count all 200-some odd members of the University of Michigan marching band who performed way back in 1973 at Super Bowl VII.

Other Michigan halftime performers from the Mitten State include Diana Ross at Super Bowl XXX in 1996. Smokey Robinson, Martha Reeves and the members of the Temptations did a Motown tribute back in 1998 at Super Bowl XXXII and the aforementioned Madonna in 2012.
