It’s Illegal in Michigan To Throw These Things in the Garbage

Recycling is big in Michigan, and I'm pretty sure we're mostly aware of what to do and not do.

But, what about our good old garbage?

We all tend to just toss garbage and unwanted things out, not thinking that some are actually illegal to toss in the trash. Who knew?

Some things are pretty obvious like old televisions and vehicle batteries, tires, and things like that. Okay, why not just toss them in the Grand River, right?

I say that factiously since TVs, batteries, refrigerators, tires and more have been found in the Grand. People even throw away their yard waste. What's wrong with people?

So, in case you are not aware, here are others things that are illegal to throw in the garbage which will end up in a landfill.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

You're probably wondering how or where you can bring some of these items if you can't throw them in the trash. Many Michigan towns and cities have special waste events where you can dispose of these items.

My go-to place for old computers, monitors, printers, TV's, batteries, old small  kitchen appliances, is Comprenew. They are just out of downtown on Ionia, 629 Ionia Ave SW, and they do it all. There is no charge for many items although there is a small fee for printers. They take batteries, we save them all, and weigh them because there is a small fee per pound.

We're recycling responsibly, so how about we "trash" responsibly.
