If you've ever owned a iPhone 6 or 7 model, you might be getting $25 from Apple sometime in the next year.  Last week, Apple agreed to a $500 million settlement in response to a lawsuit which accused them of purposely reducing the performance on older phones with software updates.

Almost 3 years ago, Apple admitted that several of their iPhone models had software that was sometimes reducing the processing power of the phone.  Now, Apple has finally taken full blame for the issue and will be paying out a settlement sometime in the next year.

According to the New York Times the eligible devices to file a claim are:

Eligible devices include any iPhone 6, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and SE that ran iOS 10.2.1 or later, or any iPhone 7 or 7 Plus that ran iOS 11.2 or later. Eligible customers had to live in the United States, and their devices had to run the given software before Dec. 21, 2017.

As of right now, you'll have to wait to file your claim.  But once you are able to do so, you will not need a receipt for your phone and will just need to fill out a single form.  There is no information as to when this will happen yet, but we will be sure to post about it once you can join the lawsuit.
