How does Michigan fare?
Not well!
Twelve more Michigan Game Stop stores are closing in Michigan, from Detroit, Flint, Jackson, Coldwater, Bay City, Plainwell, Wyandotte, and more.
GameStop has been one of the nation’s best sellers of video games and trading cards for years.
However, the company is closing a number of its stores nation-wide as part of a strategic effort to improve profitability amid declining sales, according to MSN.com. They report the store closures are part of GameStop’s broader strategy to adapt to changing consumer behaviors, including the shift toward digital game purchases and online shopping.
Ouch!
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT GRAND RAPIDS?
We have lost the Celebration Village store, but the good news is that there are still many Grand Rapids Game Stop stores open, and it look as if they will be able to remain open.
The Alpine store in Green Ridge Square is still open.
Also, the Woodland Mall store is still open and thriving. as is the Rivertown Crossings Mall store.
The store on Wilson at the Verizon Plaza is still open as well.
Around the area, the Greenville store, and more West Michigan locations remain open.
So far so good for West Michigan.
Gamers, keep your fingers crossed!
