Time to celebrate the Fourth of July!  There's the big fireworks in Grand Rapids, plus many options in other West Michigan communities.

The fireworks are a lot of fun, but they can sometimes be a little too loud and scary for young ears.

What is a good age for kids to start going to loud fireworks displays?

We've always done smaller fireworks with the kids at my house.  But even those smaller fireworks can be loud when you're so close to them.  Often the first couple of fireworks result in concerned looks from the kids.  Then those concerned looks turn into smiles after they get used to the fireworks.

Going to a large community fireworks display could be different.  We're going to go to one for the first time this year.  I think the kids will be fine, especially if we don't sit too close, but I am still a bit worried.  We'll have to wait and see if those concerned looks disappear after the first few loud booms as in the past...or if they turn into something else since the booms will be so much louder.
