Watch For It. Walmart Making Another Big Change!
More big changes are coming to Walmart!
Earlier I wrote about ways to avoid long lines and big crowds while shopping at Walmart. Hopefully you are able to use some of the hacks to save you time and your mental health.
But, have you noticed a subtle big change at Walmart?
Walmart has, and will be continuing to make this big change to all its stores. It may not have reached West Michigan yet, but they are leaning on technology more and more.
So now they are adding new price tags to all items on their shelves. The new tags are digital, not paper anymore.
WHY?
What used to take hundreds of man hours to make and change shelf price tags now can be adjusted in seconds, in other words a few key strokes.
"Instead of tags in front of the products on shelves, there are now tiny little screens that read the prices. Yes, Walmart is embracing digital shelf labels, or DSLs, and while it has already begun to implement them in stores, it expects to finish the process within the next year."
This may be good for us shoppers or not so good. Prices for high demand items could jump up in seconds without us even noticing. Conversely, the price could fall quickly of something that isn't moving to help it off the shelves.
There is a worry that these new DSLs might be monitoring us. Rumor has it that there may be tiny little cameras in the DSLs watching what we look at and buy. Hmmmm.

Walmart says, phooey to that. "The digital price tags are simply that, they are to display the price and product information on the store shelf. The tags do not interact with shoppers, and they are not set up to collect data on shoppers while in the store."
I guess we will wait and see.
