Yesterday I wrote about possible measles cases spreading in Michigan. And it seems as if this disease stuff won't let up because here comes another warning!

Yikes! Now we are getting another disease warning from the CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And this warning is about the world's deadliest creature spreading a potentially deadly disease.

I'm talking about the dreaded Mosquito and a disease I've never heard of, Dengue!

We all are aware that mosquitoes can spread malaria, West Nile, yellow fever, Zika, chikungunya, and lymphatic filariasis, but dengue?

This can be really bad stuff, so the CDC says look for these symptoms:

  • Aches and pains (eye pain, typically behind the eyes, muscle, joint, or bone pain)
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Rash
  • Any warning sign
  • Mild symptoms of dengue can be confused with other illnesses that cause fever.
  • Symptoms of dengue typically last 2–7 days.

    What about Michigan?

The CDC says that so far only 21 cases have been diagnosed in Michigan, and all of those infected cases were people who had traveled out of the country.

The CDC is concerned because the cases of dengue has increased to over 9 million in the Americas. When people are traveling to those countries they were bitten by a dengue caring mosquito and brought it back to the states.

As far as experts know dengue is not spread person to person. The only known way to become infected is through a mosquito bite.
