Pay-for-Prayers Scam Hits West Michigan

The Diocese of Grand Rapids is warning people about a "prayer ministry" scam that some people are mistakenly associating with the Diocese of Grand Rapids.

People are receiving calls from "St. Mary’s Prayer Center Ministry" which offers prayers in exchange for payment. The prayer ministry is a scam which has also been found in other states and has earned a warning from the West Virginia Attorney General's Office.

The Diocese of Grand Rapids says the scam "is not associated with the Diocese of Grand Rapids or with any of our parishes or schools named St. Mary."
