Which Michigan Tourist Spots, Traps, Are NOT Worth It?
Michigan is a state we all pretty much love. "Pure Michigan" is hailed as a vacation destination with our Great Lakes, Major League Sports, inland lakes on every street corner it seems, and a good way of life.
But, what comes with tourism can become somewhat tacky and not really worth the money.
What touristy towns/events/attractions are NOT worth the money or hype?
There has been a big discussion on Reddit because of many bad experiences or being too expensive or overcrowded. So let's see what seems to be a big NO for tourism from Michigan readers.
Mackinaw City seems to rank number one as not worth it. The gateway to Mackinac Island, a place much loved by all, has, according to some Reddit contributors, become shoddy and tacky. Most, if not all the hotels, they say, are owned and operated by one family and service and amenities are very sub par. Readers said to take the bridge on the St. Ignace.
The Mystery Spot come in at a Meh! The feeling is it's only good for kids. One person wrote:
"A place where gravity and logic doesn’t exist."
Lego Land at Great Lakes Crossing seemed to rank right up as a NO for some, but a YES for others. Fun for the kids anyway.
Hell, Michigan, is a big NO, that is unless you want to get married. A few years ago when you were filing your income taxes you could go the the Hell post office and they would singe your tax returns for you before sending them off to the IRS. Pretty funny, but now we all file electronically, so no need to go.
What about Call of the Wild? One person wrote,
"Call of the Wild.. badly taxidermied animals that looked like road kill."
Frankenmuth is another place discussed as over priced and over rated.
Bronner's, Bavarian Inn and Zehnder’s are a reason to go once, but unless you're really into Christmas and chicken dinners, maybe not.
Castle Rock in St. Ignace is a NO as well. You'll pay $1 to walk up a bunch of stairs and and look at I-75.
All of these opinions are very subjective and certainly in eyes of the beholder. Judge for yourself and enjoy Michigan.
