Big Lots! Is Closing Some Michigan Stores and One is Here in Grand Rapids

Another one bites the dust!

Big Lots! is a store with "lots" of everything, furniture, bedding, household supplies, lawn and garden stuff, pantry bargains, you name it they may have it. They're known for their discount prices, too.

Business hasn't been as brisk as they have wanted this 2024 year, and have decided to close several underperforming stores, including four in Michigan. Sadly, one is here in the Grand Rapids area, the Kentwood store, 4254 28th Street, SE.

13on your SIDE reported that Big Lots! is closing over 40 stores nationwide, and not only is the Kentwood store closing here , but also the Portage store, one in Okemos and the Ypsilanti store as well. In addition, some stores in New York, Ohio, Indiana and California are on the chopping block.

So, what's the story here? 1st quarter losses and an effort to shore up the business.

Big Lots! has been working hard to revamp the business and stress to customers that all things are good. They say most of their stores are turning the corner with the changes they have made, according to our New York sister station, Big Frog 104.

Ever since the COVID epidemic, retail businesses, restaurants, national chains, who actually may have over built, have suffered, Big Frog 104 wrote. So the closing of many Big Lots! stores is probably no surprise to anyone. It was just a matter of time until they streamlined their business to meet the new normal of retail shopping.

At this time, it's unclear when the Kentwood store will be closed.
