The Sovengard Biergarten Restaurant has finally reopened after two long years at their new location, 1232 Bridge Street, NW.

They closed their doors 20 months ago and didn't move far, just up Bridge Street a bit, but to a larger and more welcoming building and in a quieter location. They had hoped to reopen long before this but there were many construction delays.

Finally though, the doors to the bright and shiny new restaurant will be open.

Crain's Business Grand Rapids reports The Sovengard of course, will keep the outdoor biergarten, but is now able to seat 100 people. And inside, the new space will allow seating for an additional 120 customers.

Crain's says the biergarten will feature a living wall, an outdoor bar, and a garden, where The Sovengard will grow produce and flowers for restaurant use.

The Sovengard's old location and kitchen kept them from really creating that special dining experience that the owners wanted for their customers. They really prided themselves in being a true farm-to-table restaurant working with local farmers to bring the best to their dinner tables.  Now, with a 1,200-foot kitchen, open for customers to see, and the addition of a wood-fired grill, it's going to be the experience they had always dreamed of.

There will be skylights in the dining room, a gas fireplace, and a produce market.

Seriously, a fresh produce section in the restaurant so customers can buy fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, whether dining or not.

Congratulations to owner Rick Muschiana. It's been a long road, but absolutely well worth the wait.
