It only took two years for Dusty May, head basketball coach at Michigan, to go all the way and win Michigan's second national basketball title.

That is amazing, especially since he inherited a team that had a 8 - 24 record  2023-24, with a Big 10 record of 3 - 17. Not exactly high grade basketball.

Then May came aboard. And with the transfer portal spitting out players in Michigan's lap, May took his team to 27-10 record in his first year, and also took the team to the Sweet 16! This year.....CHAMPS! Not too shabby.

But with success, fans are already worried they won't be able to hang on to Dusty.

After all, the much coveted North Carolina job was up for grabs. Would he want that challenge next?

However, the North Carolina job, which opened during Michigan’s NCAA run, is now filled. They hired Michael Malone, an 20-year NBA coach who had won the NBA championship with the Denver Nuggets in 2023.

Then, there might be Arizona, but  Arizona’s Tommy Lloyd re-signed.

But, don't worry Maze and Blue fans, Dusty May isn't going anywhere. Whew!

No way would he go to another college job. He's already at the top. But, what about the NBA?

So-called experts are saying that May has the temperament and acumen to be an NBA coach in the future. He is 49, so, down the road a bit, we will see.

On the Rich Eisen Show, May said:

“For all of those Michigan fans, they have nothing to worry about. Eli’s a sophomore in college right now and I can’t see any scenario where I would take my son away from graduating from the University of Michigan and sharing this experience.”

His son, Eli is a student manager with the Wolverines; May’s middle son, Charlie, was a walk-on guard who just finished his college career.

So you can breath easier Wolverine crazies. May said:

“If there’s ever a time when we don’t feel like we can get it done here, that’s when it’s time to go. Otherwise, I think we can be consistent national championship contenders and I love it at Michigan. And I’m very proud to represent all of you (Michigan fans).”
