A New TV Meteorologist Is Coming To Grand Rapids

Let's face it, the broadcasting business, radio and TV, is not for the faint-of-heart. It can be a rewarding career, but continues to be a tough and unforgiving life if chosen.

All local news fans have all be rocked with the changes at Fox17. So many people have been let go including Chief Meteorologist Kevin Craig, and our hearts ache for all.

However, on the other side, WZZM TV13 is hiring and just announced the addition of another weather person, meteorologist Joel Robinson to their staff.

Joel is originally from Fenton, Michigan and seems to be thrilled to be able to return to his home state. He has been weather forecasting in East Texas, Tyler, for the past few years on CBS19, a sister station to WZZM, and the chance to "return home" so to speak, was too enticing.

I'm sure it won't be too difficult to transition to a bit more tranquil weather here in Michigan from typical August Texas weather with high's averaging around 104 much of the month.

So many Tyler, Texas fans are sad to see him go, but happy for his growth and moving to a much larger market. The Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo/Battle Creek market is the 43rd largest TV market in the country according to the 2024-2025 Neilson rankings.

A graduate of Oklahoma University, Joel now moves into Big10 territory. Who he will be rooting for is anyone's guess, but for sure it will be Oklahoma first. Then probably Lions, Tigers, Pistons and Wings. College is up for grabs.
