Meijer is Rivaling Costco by Building Massive New Stores
Meijer seems to putting the boxing gloves on against Costco as they are opening new supercenters bigger than your average Costco store.
Meijer already has more than 500 supercenters, grocery stores, and other types of shops spread throughout it's home state of Michigan and throughout the Midwest, including Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. And next month, they will add to that number.
They are building three brand-new super-supercenters. Two of the new locations will be in Ohio with the other new supercenter to open here in Michigan, in Hillsdale, marking their 127th store here in Michigan.
BIG BIG STORES!
And, get a load of this, all three of the new supercenters will span a whopping 159,000 square feet. That's even larger than the average size of a Costco warehouse—147,000 square feet.
WILL THE NEW BIG BIG SUPERCENTERS BE DIFFERENT?
The new stores aren't going to be changing their product mix much, however. With these new monster stores they'll just have more of it.
PRODUCTS AND DEPARTMENTS AT MEIJER
They will still have the same types of products and departments featured at existing Meijer locations, including fresh produce, grocery staples, bakery items, home goods, electronics, beauty products, pharmacies, the garden centers, and so much more.
WHAT ABOUT MEIJER GAS STATIONS?
Of course they will have a Meijer Express gas station at each location, too. will also open adjacent to the North Canton and Hillsdale locations on April 18.
WILL MEIJER CONTINUE TO GROW?
Meijer has been on a building spree last year and are continuing on in 2024. In Ohio they opened stores in Warren, and Wooster, and a new one in Elkhart, Ind.
Amazing growth, Meijer. Congratulations!
