This time the Sheriff's Office posted on their Facebook page that someone is impersonating a member of the Kent County Sheriff's Office claiming that you have missed jury duty. They may also say you have a legal issue.

Money! Plain and simple, they want your money. They demand payment over the phone. Whoops! Is that a red flag or what! BIG RED FLAG! Sadly, several people have taken the bait and sent money.

The Sheriff's Office says this isn't anything new, and has been tried before, but are urging all of us to keep on the lookout for this stupid stuff and to spread the word to family and friends.

The Kent County Sheriff's Department Says:

• We will never call and demand payment or threaten arrest over the phone, followed by demanding immediate payment.
• We do not ask for gift cards, wire transfers, bitcoin, or payment apps.
• If you have a real warrant or legal issue, you’ll be notified in person or through official notice—not a phone call demanding money.
"Scammers often use real names of deputies or spoof our number to sound convincing. If you get a call like this, hang up and call us directly at (616) 632-6100 to verify."
