Archie Andrews, main character of the 73-year-old Archie comic book series, will meet his demise in an upcoming issue of Life With Archie. Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater told CNN, "This isn't a random one-off or 'what-if' story that we're doing as a gag… It's a once-in-a-lifetime event, and we are being very considerate about it."

If you aren't familiar with the comics, each issue of Life With Archie is usually split into two stories—one in which Archie is married to Veronica and anotherwhere he ends up married to Betty. In July, his fate in both storylines will be exactly the same - Archie will die as a "hero," sacrificing himself for a friend.

"Life With Archie" #36 hits stores on July 16, and that is the fateful edition that will include the death of the beloved character.

The 37th issue will come out one week later, and that will be the final comic of the series.
