Artnet's "14 Emerging Women Artists to Watch in 2017" includes an artist whose work will be familiar to fans of ArtPrize.

Chicago native and four-time ArtPrize competitor Jennifer Cronin was named one of 14 women to watch worldwide by artnet. Cronin said it was an honor and an "exciting surprise".

Artnet has a strong social media following with over 1.5 million followers on Twitter, 390,000 followers on Instagram and 200,000 likes on Facebook.

Artnet says Cronin, "paints and draws in hauntingly-realistic style."

Cronin entered ArtPrize for the first time in 2011 with a painting at Grand Rapids Public Museum. In 2012, we placed that painting, “Untitled no. 1 (from the peculiar manifestation of paint in my everyday life),” on our list of the all-time best of ArtPrize.

After taking a year off from the competition, Cronin returned to ArtPrize with entries at DeVos Place in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

We talked to Cronin about her painting at ArtPrize, "Lucky to Have Each Other" in 2015.

Cronin's four ArtPrize entries have all worked around a theme of everyday life situations with a bit of fantasy mixed in, but her latest project is something entirely different; a series of homes created with carbon pencil on toned paper.

Artnet says Cronin's next series is inspired by a recent trip to Newtok, a remote native Alaskan village.
