
Hope College Repertory Theatre Alum Wins Broadway’s Tony Award
You could say in a way West Michigan and the Hope Repertory Theatre Company have just won a Tony Award, honoring Broadway's best of the best as the movies do with the Oscar.

Hope Rep alumni Ali Louis Bourzgui just won a Tony award at the 79th Annual Tony Awards this past Sunday, June 7. Ali won the 2026 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for the role of David in THE LOST BOYS.
On his hoped for eventual trip to Broadway, Ali spent two seasons with Hope Rep in 2019 and 2021. He performed in multiple productions, including WEST SIDE STORY, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, and SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE.

Bourzgui has had quite the speedy career in theatre. In 2021, just after finishing his last season at Hope Rep, Bourzgui made his professional debut in the first national tour of The Band's Visit as Haled. Following a 2023 tryout run in Chicago, Bourzgui made his Broadway debut in the role in the 2024 Broadway revival of The Who's Tommy, a performance for which he received a Theatre World Award, and a Drama League Distinguished Performance Award nomination. In 2025, he starred as Orpheus in the Broadway production of Hadestown.
Hope Repertory Theatre has been going strong since 1972. It is West Michigan's premier professional theatre company, and is celebrating over 50 seasons of providing high-quality arts and entertainment for West Michigan.
