Counting All Dogs…Counting All Dogs…in Ottawa County

Anyone have a dog?  Sure, many of us do.  And, if you live in Ottawa County, county workers are tracking you down...so to speak.

So far, county workers and interns have gone door to door in Holland, Georgetown, Allendale and Park townships, checking for licensed dogs. Now, they're moving into Grand Haven and Zeeland townships.

Our news partner, WZZM TV13, reports households with unlicensed dogs must get their dog licensed or pay a ticket. As part of licensing, dogs must have their updated shots. Licenses are $10 to $70 per pet and available for purchase online, by mail or at the following locations:

Dog licensing fees help offset the costs of Ottawa County Animal control and shelter services provided by Harbor Humane Society. Since the census started, the number of dog licenses has more than tripled; 3,415 licenses were purchased in June. Michigan law requires all dogs four months and older be licensed.
