College Football’s Hottest QB Offered $1 Million To Play At EMU

The college football transfer portal continues to get weirder and weirder.

Two things have dramatically changed the landscape of college athletics since 2020.

The first was the opening up of the transfer portal which allows players to switch schools without penalty (prior to that athletes had to sit out a season before swapping schools).

The second was the decision which allowed college athletes to be allowed to benefit financially off their name and likeness (NIL), meaning athletes can enter deals with local businesses to effectively be paid to play.

It's essentially free agency for college sports. If a star athlete wants to go somewhere else because their coach left or they feel they're not getting a fair shake, they have a one time shot to go anywhere.

And now they are getting offered cash deals to transfer.

Hot quarterback prospect Caleb Williams from Oklahoma recently declared his intention to enter the transfer portal, and he's so good, that schools have been tossing massive NIL deals at him.

Former Eastern Michigan quarterback Charlie Batch has offered Williams $1 million if he becomes an Eagle.

Batch, who went on to play in the NFL with the Detroit Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers, now works for CapStone Holdings, a financial firm that has set up a GameAbove fund to aid EMU athletes.

He tweeted out this week that GameStop would work out a deal to earn Williams the cool million if he comes to QB the Eagles.

Eastern has been coming on in recent years under coach Chris Creighton. The Eagles have gone to three bowl games in the past 5 seasons.

That being said, SEC schools like Auburn and Ole Miss have allegedly offered Williams deals  worth nearly twice as much to play for them, so Batch may have to dig deeper to get the odds on Heisman Trophy favorite for 2022 to come to Ypsilanti.
