Anna the dog is our special pet of the week.

Andy Rent talked about her on his Andy in the Morning show for Wet Nose Wednesday.

Jennie, from the Humane Society of West Michigan, brought Anna to the studios. Anna is a 10-year-old chihuahua who was brought to the Humane Society from an SPCA transfer from Kalamazoo. She has a lot of love to give - chihuahuas can actually live as long as 20. She's a calm girl who is housed with another dog. We would still require a dog to dog meeting if she is going to a home with another dog. Because of her calm demeanor, she should go to a home with older respectful children.

Because Anna is part of the Silver Paws society her adoption fee is waived, and it would be wonderful if she could find a loving, forever, home.

According to the AKC, Chihuahua's all have large, alert ears, big moist eyes, and huge personalities. Inside each little Chihuahua is a miniature king or queen ready to rule their realms, so they need to be taught what is acceptable in human kingdoms. They are intelligent and enthusiastic, so they usually don’t need extensive training.

July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month so Jennie mentioned ideas on how to keep your dog from being lost.

Invisible Fence

-Fenced in Yard

-Do not allow free roaming walks

-Collars with id tags

-Microchipping

-Be extra careful when taking your pet to another location like the vet (use a harness or carrying cage)

-Train your pet to come when called, or how to sit at a door
