Are you dreaming of a White Christmas for West Michigan?

History is on your side, but this year could be different.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA/the what?), says historically there is a 73% chance that Grand Rapids will have a White Christmas.  Detroit has a 50% chance.  Sault Saint Marie and Marquette have a 100% chance.

The NOAA defines a "White Christmas" as having 1 inch of snow on the ground.

The 73% chance for Grand Rapids is a "historical chance".  Now that we are getting closer to Christmas, we can begin to speculate further.

It looks like we have a chance of snow Thursday night and into Friday.  It also looks like temperatures will stay below freezing through Christmas once we get that snow.  If the snow comes as expected, it is unlikely it will melt before Christmas.

It is possible we will have a White Christmas this year.

Keep your fingers crossed if you are hoping for a White Christmas!
