Tears for Fears Re-Issuing ‘Songs from the Big Chair’ in November

Tears for Fears today announced plans to re-issue its best-selling album, "Songs from the Big Chair," in November.

The album, which spawned classics “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” “Mother’s Talk,” “Shout” and “Head over Heels,” is being released Nov. 11 via Universal Music Enterprises in five formats, including a six-disc deluxe edition box set featuring previously unreleased material and a 5.1 surround sound mix. The album is also to be available on vinyl.

Tears for Fears’ 10 million-selling second album marked a transition in the band’s sound and catapulted them into international prominence.

In the U.S., “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” led the "Songs from the Big Chair" single releases, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1985. “Shout” was the band’s second single and stayed at No. 1 for three weeks. The album inevitably went straight to No. 1, selling five million copies in the U.S.

Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith formed Tears for Fears in 1981 after finding inspiration in the new electronic movement.

Their six studio albums have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and produced some of the most recognized songs in New Wave, which have gone on to be covered by New Found Glory, Paul Young, Gloria Gaynor, Michael Andrews and Gary Jules. The band continue to influence generations of new artists, with Lorde recently putting a dark spin on “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" film soundtrack, while the Crystal Fighters recorded their own version of “Change.”

Tears for Fears is currently working on its first album in nearly a decade, with a release tentatively set for 2015.
