Grand Haven offers some of the best sunsets in Michigan, if not the Midwest. It's never the same sunset twice. I took these shots standing on the north pier. The only thing missing is a sailboat or two
Peonies are such a spectacular flower. They bloom in late May or early June. I always make sure to take photos because they are so delicate. One storm and they are history until next year!
All it takes is one really good year weather wise to see the wisdom of holding the Festival of the Arts the first full weekend in June. 2011 was that year. An estimated 400,000 people came downtown for the three day arts festival and were treated to some of the best weather of the year. It was the first time since 2004 that Festival has been dry.
After such a wet spring, it's gonna be a "Dog gone" good summer. Four out of five canine experts agree West Michigan is a heck of good place to be a dog. (The fifth opinion belongs to a cat named Izzie and although she says it's a nice place for dogs...it's an even better place for cats!) We have two dogs...a Jack Russell Terrier named Holly and a Golden Retriever named Cali. Both of our girls love to play outside in the West Michigan sunshine. Holly especially loves to go for a car ride because most of the time it means we are going to go someplace fun! So with fun in mind, here (in no particular order) are Holly and Cali's five favorite places to visit in West Michigan.
News today that cell phones may cause cancer is not exactly new. Researchers have theorized that for a few years. What is new is the depth of the study causing a world wide health organization to put cell phone usage in the same dangerous category as pesticide DDT and gasoline engine exhaust. The group gave cellphones a "2B" classification, meaning they are possibly carcinogenic in humans. It is not the phone that is harmful, but the radiation emitting from it that causes problems. Makes you wish you didn't ditch that land line, doesn't it.
I agree with Chuck. Grand Rapids is a heck-of-a-nice place to live. I've lived here almost my entire life and I've seen our town morph into a very beautiful, modern city. Most of the changes made downtown have turned out to be good ideas
After 25 years coming into our living rooms and sharing her life and the lives of those around her, Oprah is calling it quits today. The final show was taped yesterday and show guests say it was just "Oprah on stage" with a chair - although she didn't use it much. Oprah used the opportunity to share one more time, what she has learned the past quarter of a century. Others may try, but no one will ever replace Oprah
Watching the finale of Dancing With The Stars last night, I could tell Kirstie Alley was disappointed she didn't win. Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver Hines Ward edged out Alley for the coveted dancing crown
Sound familiar. Living Higher on the Hog in Michigan than what we should have put many in the state in a precarious position that could have negative impact on the state's economic future. A new Michigan State University study on household financial conditions says too many of us are relying on debt to sustain lifestyles enjoyed when we made more money.
I'm afraid of heights. But I found out again, that I can temporarily overcome it to take pictures. We went to the top of Philadelphia's city hall in a freight elevator. The founder of the city, William Penn, sits high above the city, Up until 1987, this was the highest spot in Philly
