A woman from Jenison is headed to prison for 10 years for having sex with a male minor.

According to WZZM, 47-year-old Joy Marie Adrianson was sentenced Monday for having sex with a 12-year-old boy. She apologized during her sentencing in an Ottawa County Circuit Court.

Adrianson told the judge, "What I did should never have happened. I struggled with depression and marriage issues that contributed to my judgment being clouded."

She went on to say, "I am the adult and I should have known better."

Adrianson plead guilty to two third degree charges of criminal sexual conduct dodging a first degree charge which carries a mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison.

A deal allowed Adrianson to plead guilty to two charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed a first-degree charge, which would have carried a mandatory 25-year minimum prison sentence.

When Adrianson is released she will have to register as a sex offender and have no contact with the victim.

Court documents state Adrianson and the boy had a one year sexual relationship.

When in court, Adrianson calimed the boy made advances toward her first.

At the end of the trial Judge Karen Miedema was not swayed by testimony from Adrianson's 30 character witnesses. Reminding the jury that Adrianson manipulated the boy and said, "You are still blaming the victim at this point, saying you couldn't say no to his advances."
