Over a year after Michiganders voted yes to legalizing marijuana on the 2018 ballot, the first legal purchases of pot happened over the weekend.  On Sunday, December 1st, three recreational marijuana shops in Ann Arbor had the honor of selling the first few bags to the public.

The video above shows customers lined up down the street to get their chance to purchase the legal pot.  MLive had a chance to speak with a few of the patrons and here is what they had to say:

A man standing in line on the street said "I'm 36 years old and I never thought this day would happen but I'm so glad it did. I don't do nothing else and I stay out of trouble. I don't want to be in trouble for marijuana ever again."

And a Vietnam Veteran inside the store said "I have two artificial knees, two artificial hips, a pin in my shoulder but I take no opiates. And marijuana got me off of opiates and I'm truly grateful for that."

As far as we can tell, the only stores currently selling marijuana are the three in Ann Arbor, but many more will be opening their doors soon.
