Deadly Hantavirus is in the U.S. Should We Worry in Michigan?
Some deadly news continuing this week is about the Hantavirus that is linked to deaths aboard a cruise ship, and many other people sick. Passengers have been quarantined that came in contact with those infected.
This is scary. Should we worry? Is this another pandemic in the making?
Right now, no, not really. The Coronavirus was something totally different that we didn't know anything about so it took awhile to get hold of it. But we do need to be cautious about this virus.

This cruise ship virus was identified as the Andes strain and is believed to be capable of human-to-human transmission with close contact and spreads through contact with infected rodents in South America or their urine, saliva or feces. Yuck!
That said, "the CDC reports that rodents that carry Andes virus have not been found in the United States" according to the website Blue Water Healthy Living.
But that doesn't mean you should throw caution to the wind. Maybe you are cleaning out the basement, garage or shed and you find signs of mice and rodents.
Experts say, be very careful. First of all, don't simply sweep up the droppings. That is something we would probably do but that is bad because some of that can become airborne and you would breath it in. It's probably not Hantavirus, but you can still become very sick.
Wear a mask and gloves, use some bleach and then clean it up.
Initially, put out traps, clean up food and seal holes or gaps in your home, workplace or garage.
Be safe and clean. It will pay off big in the long run.
