There seems to be a lot of talk lately about the taste of Vernor's. It is the beloved Michigan born ginger ale, that for whatever reason, holds a special place in Michiganders hearts.

Born and brewed in Michigan by a Detroit pharmacist, James Vernor, in 1866, Vernor's was originally thought to be created for stomach issues.

Hmmm, how similar this sounds to the creation of Coca-Cola. Another pharmacist, John Pemberton, created his historic drink in 1886.

Trying to find a market for this new drink, Coca Cola, Wikipedia says it was marketed to women as:

"A  valuable brain tonic that would cure headaches, relieve exhaustion, and calm nerves, and marketed it as "delicious, refreshing, pure joy, exhilarating", and "invigorating".

Vernor's didn't go as global as Coke did and stayed pretty much regional and advertised as Detroit's Drink.

But, as I said, recently, Vernor's fans are speaking up about it tasting different.

In a Reddit.com/Michigan thread, folks have said it doesn't taste as they remembered. Others have said definitely, they changed the recipe because they are sure it tastes strange.

"It's nostalgia talking. 20 years ago or so, Vernor's was spicy and good. Now it's ginger ale the same way mountain dew is actual mountain dew."

Vernors is owned now by Keurig Dr Pepper, and surprisingly, the flagship bottling plant serving Michigan is still in Michigan, just not in Detroit. It is now bottled in the Keurig Dr Pepper bottling plant in Holland, Michigan.

So, if you are a Vernor's fan, what do you think? Have they done something different?

After some serious sleuthing, I found the website Every Last Recipe.com, and here is what they say:

"As of now, there is no credible evidence to support these claims. Vernors, the iconic ginger ale brand, has remained steadfast in preserving the original recipe that has captivated consumers for decades. The company has not made any official announcements regarding modifications to the ginger ale’s ingredients or flavor. As fans and enthusiasts continue to enjoy the fizzy goodness of Vernors, they can rest assured that the recipe remains unchanged, delivering the familiar taste and unique experience they have come to love."

So there you have it. I hope that puts that to rest.

Just sip and enjoy and, fagetaboutit!
