I've been talking about looking forward to Thanksgiving, being with family, cooking the turkey, and all of the celebrating.  And, I'm happy about that.  But, sad about the fact that there are many in our community who aren't able to celebrate.  There are so many families and individuals who, through economic problems of our days, can't afford to put food on the table, or don't have anyone to be with, and Thursday will just another day.

That's where the caring of the Grand Rapids, and West Michigan community steps up to help.  There have been hundreds of food baskets with turkeys and all the trimmings, handed out to families in need.  They'll be able to have a Thanksgiving meal at home.

What about the rest?  Those who don't have a place to go, family or friends to be with, need a place, too.

They do, thanks to Mel Trotter Ministries.

Thanksgiving Day, the 24th, Mel Trotter is holding their annual Great Thanksgiving Banquet.  From 11am to 1pm at DeVos Place, downtown Grand Rapids, the Grand Ballroom will be transformed into a Thanksgiving Feast.  Everyone is welcome.  It's FREE!!  You can bring yourself, your family, friends, everyone.  It will be a warm, welcoming and loving place for you and your loved ones in need.

But that's not all.  Up Greenville way, The Halfway Restaurant on M-57 is opening its doors to anyone wanting a Thanksgiving meal. They'll have a full Thanksgiving meal from 11:00am to 3:00pm on Thanksgiving.

What a generous treat for the community.  The dinner is for those who can't afford a meal, or don't have a place to go.

It, too, is FREE...no cost to anyone.  The owners of the restaurant are accepting donations and non-perishable goods.  All the proceeds will go toward local food pantries, but you don't have to bring money or goods to get a meal.  It's there you, FREE.

Happy Thanksgiving!
