Since 2009, ArtPrize has become a staple of the arts movement in Grand Rapids. Every year it attracts artists and art enthusiasts from all over the country. However, some in GR have had enough of the art competition.

ArtPrize kicks off on September 16 and runs until October 3. Artists from all over the world are finding themselves in Grand Rapids setting up for the competition. Let's meet one...

Wow, it's hard to believe that we are getting ready to kick off ArtPrize 8 in less that a week! (Preview week kicked off on Wednesday, August 14th, but the official start of ArtPrize will be next Wednesday, September 21st.) I have been to each and every ArtPrize. One of the things I've learned over the years is there is always more to art than meets the eye.

ArtPrize today announced a brand new grant program for 2016. ArtPrize Featured Public Projects will grant $55,000 directly to artists, ranging from $10,000 to $15,000 per project. The grants will be given to artists for entries at four ArtPrize venues: Vandenberg (Calder) Plaza, Ah-Nab-Awen Park, Grand River and Gillett Bridge.

ArtPrize has announced ArtPrize 2015 will feature 1,649 artists from 48 countries and 42 U.S. states for a total of 1,554 entries.

The first year of ArtPrize featured 1,262 entries, last year there were 1,537 and the all-time record was set in 2010 with 1,713 entries. This year's 2,085 registered entries is not final, but 2015 could reach a record number.

This ArtPrize entry had a lot of buzz around it.  The video does not do it justice.  You HAVE TO see it in person, because feeling the experience is actually part of the whole thing.
