Have you been to the Van Andel Arena lately?

Maybe you've been there for hockey, concert, basketball?

Then you probably took the suitcase stairs.

Seriously, the main, monster stairs of the arena are now partially made of suitcases.

Okay, not seriously. Although they sure look real! It's an overlay decal on the steps and can really mess with your mind.

I think it's very cool, but I'm sure not everybody will.

I'll call them the "suitcase stairs," are an advertisement for the Ford Airport, and they certainly make an impact.

There are sponsor ads all over the arena, around the ice for the Griffins, boards and signs for the Grand Rapids Gold basketball team, and the same for the Grand Rapids Rise professional volleyball team. I do think stairs are a first, and a very clever and subtle one at that.

Mike McClelland posted these photos on a Facebook group call Death Stairs. The site says they want posts about stairs "where ascension is perilous and descending is deadly."

Of course many people weighed in on, not only the "suitcase stairs" at the Van Andel Arena, but others as well.

Personally, I've never had a problem at Van Andel. The stairs are fine for me, except for the stairs to the 200 section, the upper bowl. Now you're talking "Death Stairs."

But if I choose, I can use the escalator next to the stairs or take the elevator, so no problem.

One contributor says the BOB stairs certainly qualify as "Death Stairs." I might have to agree there.

Another contributor says the stairs at Lookout Park off Coit are bigtime "Death Stairs."

Fun to play with this, so, what about you? Any other nominations for "Death Stairs?"
