I would like to complain that this is bad timing, but just as the coronavirus doesn't care about our economy, tornadoes won't care about a pandemic, so I guess we have to be prepared for everything.

So be prepared, tomorrow at 1 pm - that's Wednesday, March 25th - there will be a statewide tornado drill, making sure the sirens are working and it's supposed to also be when you go into your basement or wherever you'd go in a storm and make sure you're ready to hunker down with your safety preparedness kit ready for when a storm does come our way.

Of course, this is a time when everybody is already on edge, and some counties are opting out of the drill.  WILX said that Eaton County decided against doing the drill, as to not cause any more panic with their residents. It appears that Kent and Ottawa Counties are participating.

Normally Kent County tests the tornado sirens on the first Friday of each month from April through October at noon. Again, this is a statewide test directed by MI

If you don't have a "Safety Preparedness Kit", here's what Kent County suggests you have:

Flashlight
Food, snacks
Extra Batteries
Extra clothing
Bottled water
Canned food
Towels
Cell phone
Heavy plastic
Duct tape
First aid kit
Can opener
Battery operated radio
