Around the radio station, we've worked with the Humane Society of West Michigan for many years featuring adoptable pets - dogs, cats, bunnies, even guinea pigs, and the occasional bearded dragon. But our scaly friends, the reptiles, are very rare at the Humane Society.

But not in West Michigan, because many people/families will have a bearded dragon for instance, as a pet, probably for the kids. It's unique and kids love it for a while, but they take work and kids lose interest and mom and dad don't want the responsibility, so what happens to Drako the Dragon?

That's where Kaylea Ostrander of Eaton Rapids comes in. The Dragon Queen or Lizard Queen jumps to the rescue.

Fox17 did a story on Kaylea who has been doing an amazing job housing abandoned reptiles, in her home! Along with a dog, a cat, and some birds, Kaylea has 22 reptiles all rescued and most looking for their forever home named, of course, The Dragon Queen Reptile Rescue.

It all started with a bearded dragon named Leo who wasn't doing well, and as she studied reptiles extensively, saved little Leo and realized, hey, I can do this!

I help owners that are interested in how I'm actually learning and helping the reptiles, keeping the reptiles and then I take surrenders, no judgments.

There are times that Kaylea will take in a bearded dragon that is in a bad way and find that there is nothing she can do for them. Through mistreatment, abandonment, neglect, or whatever, some can't survive.

And, that's why cases like this keep her traveling all across the state to rescue reptiles in need. She wants to make sure they have a second chance in a proper home filled with love.

Kaylea always requires proof of proper enclosure lights and proper equipment and habitat that would keep one of her reptiles safe and happy before she will send one home with a new family.
