UPDATE (10:40AM): WOOD-TV8 reports and the GRPD has confirmed via an automated text message that the homicide suspect has been taken into custody.

There is a large police presence in southeast Grand Rapids as GRPD are involved with a standoff with a homicide suspect.

Wood TV 8 reports police entered a home on Sigsbee Street SE and Benjamin Avenue SE shortly after 9a.m. It is unknown if the suspect is in custody.

Police say the suspect is a 31-year-old man who is believed to be armed.

Neighbors should shelter in place and drivers should avoid the area of Wealthy St. and Fuller Ave.

The homicide is believed to have occurred early Wednesday morning in the area of Ottillia Street SE and Nelson Avenue SE. Wood TV 8 reports that a woman was shot and killed. This is the 31st homicide in Grand Rapids in 2020.
