If you like shooting off fireworks and live in the Battle Creek area, you are gonna want to read this or it may cost you some big bucks!

According to WMMT, on Tuesday the Battle Creek City Commission made some new rules on when you can light off fireworks and they have upped the fines for violators of the city ordinances.

The new fireworks mandates are in line with Michigan's Fireworks Safety Act that was passed by the state in 2018. The are limits to Battle Creek residents on what times and days you can light off fireworks.

Here is a list of dates and times you will need to abide by in Battle Creek when shooting off fireworks:

  • Fireworks cannot be shot off until after 11 a.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday before Memorial Day until 11:45 p.m.
  • June 29 to July 4 until 11:45 p.m.
  • July 5, like this year when it lands on a Friday or Saturday until 11:45 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday Labor Day Weekend until 11:45
  • New Year's Eve until 1 a.m. January 1

If you break any of these rules, it may cost you because the fines have doubled from $500 to $1000. With half of that money going to local law enforcement agency who catches you, that will be incentive enough to catch some law breakers.

The fireworks laws will begin Friday May 17, 2019. Try and keep all your fingers and toes intact.
