Michigan Powerlifter Lifts Jeep Off Man Trapped Underneath [VIDEO]
A powerlifter in Ypsilanti's quick actions helped save the life of man pinned under a vehicle.
WXYZ Detroit reports that Ryan Belcher, who works out at the gym and lift weights five days a week, heard a commotion outside of his work place Thursday afternoon.
He looks outside to see a jeep flipped over and a crowd of people rushing toward it.
Belcher says his first instinct was to run out and help.
When Belcher gets outside, he discovers the crumpled Jeep. There was a car with front end damage and a woman lying a few feet away. After checking on her, he turns his attention to a man, trapped under the vehicle, begging for help.
Belcher told WXYZ,
"Half of his torso was outside of the vehicle and the other half was still underneath in the vehicle. I had no other choice. It was either save a man or not believe in myself. So I just reached in did what I had to do.”
He began lifting and pushing the vehicle as hard as he could, saying this is what was going through his head,
“Okay, this is where I need to be. This is all the power I’ve used, all the training I’ve been through, this is the time where it’s really going to pay off in a good way to help somebody."
The two drivers were treated for serious injuries, but no fatalities were reported.
To say I’m a hero, I don’t know. I’m glad to have been there and I was put there for a reason."
