It May Be Illegal to Mow Your Grass in Michigan!
This sounds silly, but it is possible that it could be illegal to cut your grass.
It's spring, and we have all been cutting our lawns, making them beautiful. After all we just were finally able to put the show shovel and snow blower away and now you are saying it may be illegal to cut the grass?
Well, yes and no! Truth be told Michigan doesn't have any statewide law that says we are prohibited from cutting the grass, but our local governments may have something on their books.
There are probably "noise ordinances" in each city, township, county, that we have to adhere to, and since lawnmowers certainly are not the quietest machine out there, that probably falls in there.

Typically an excessive noise curfew is between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. I know the Meijer Gardens, for example, have to curtail their summer concerts by 10 p.m.
Downtown, the new Acrisure Amphitheater is somewhat exempt from the Grand Rapids noise ordinance as most all concerts there will end by 11 p.m.
But, cutting your grass is different, so you should only be cutting your grass between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. to avoid irritating your neighbors. Let's face it. Why would you want to be cutting your grass after 9 p.m. anyway. You wouldn't even be able to see the stuff.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN IF YOU'RE CUTTING OUTSIDE NORMAL TIMES?
The website Law Shun.com says:
"Most noise ordinances in Michigan cities and townships specify quiet hours, typically between 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM, during which loud activities like lawn mowing are prohibited. Homeowners and landscaping businesses must adhere to these hours to avoid fines or penalties."
Don't you just love the smell of fresh cut grass?
