Warning! Michigan Insurance Rates are Going Up Again! Help!
I just had a long discussion with my insurance agent regarding my policies. I'm not talking health insurance, which is another story, just auto and homeowners. My rates have jumped astronomically and I need to do something about it.
Auto is through the roof, and homeowner's or renters insurance is not far behind. However, they are something we have to have. So, in looking into it, beginning with auto, there are several factors we don't have control over, but help jack up the auto insurance rates for us.
Tariffs for one thing. They have been a big pain. Then there is the weather. Living in Michigan, snow and snow! Did I mention snow? More and more accidents mean more and more insurance payouts.
Rising repair costs are a factor, along with uninsured drivers that insurance companies must pay for if they have an accident. And, don't forget No Fault Insurance. Michigan is one of the few states to have this but boy does No Fault move the needle of insurance rates.

Help! All of these things hurt us on our rates, but what can we do about it? Stick our heads in the sand?
No! For one thing, bundling your auto and homeowner's/renters policies together is a key step. That is something I have done for years, and it has helped, but I need to find more savings.
In my conversation with my agent we went over every bit of each policy to find any possible place for a discount to reduce my rate, which is something you should jump on right away if you're not already doing it.
Raise my deductible on homeowners policy? Check!
Credit score? Check! The better your score the better risk you are and could lower your rate.
There are safe driver discounts, non-smoker discounts, and more. Just ask!
Investigate every place you could save with your agent. You'll be surprised!
