It is sad but true, life isn't always fair.

Life can take so many unplanned turns. Unfortunate circumstances may take hold and leave you wondering how did I get here.

Family and friends pass away or drift away, the community moves on and often doesn't remember you, and possibly you spend your remaining years alone and forgotten.

That seems to have been the life of Norman Cornelius Bouwens. I say that because sadly, Norman passed away on March 2nd of this year, and presumably, alone.

After his death there was no one there for him. No one to claim Norman, no one at all.  He was alone.

How can this happen? He was a Marine Corps Vietnam Era veteran! But, people forgot.

Although not much is recorded about Norman, we know he was born in 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland, and eventually made his way to Michigan. His last residence on record is Kentwood, but his passing was in Wyoming, all in the Greater Grand Rapids area.

This man, Norman Cornelius Bouwens, does not deserve an end such as this. He deserves better, and now it will happen.

The Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care group is inviting all to come together and ensure he receives the dignified farewell he deserves.

There will be a committal service at Fort Custer Nation Cemetery, Battle Creek, Thursday, April 23 at 10 a.m. Finally, a fitting tribute.

Rest in Peace, Norman. Thank You For Your Service!
