So Yeon Ryu won this year's Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give in Grand Rapids. As champion, Ryu won $300,000 of the $2 million purse which goes to the top ten players.

Yesterday, Ryu announced she will be donating $100,000 of her winnings.

Ryu and Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give tournament representatives made the announcement on Tuesday. Ryu will give $100,000 to Simply Give, a program that stocks the shelves of food pantries in the Midwest.

Ryu says that she learned about Simply Give before the tournament. She said, "I decided to donate to the program if I win this tournament, and that became my motivation. I am very happy that I could keep the promise to myself."

And what a promise to keep.

As the holidays approach and with Giving Tuesday on Nov. 27, it's fair to think that Ryu's generosity could inspire even more people to give.

The 2018 Meijer LPGA Classic was the fifth annual tournament benefiting Simply Give. The five tournaments have generated $4.3 million for food pantries in the Midwest. Overall, Simply Give has raised over $43 million since it was founded in 2008.

The 2019 Meijer LPGA Classic will return to Blythefield Country Club from June 11-16.
