As we celebrate our country's independence with fireworks, road trips and grills packed with food, think about a quieter way to celebrate the rest of summer.

Open your doors to Ava from Crash's Landing.

Crash's Landing is a non-profit, no-kill cat rescue center.  Since opening in Grand Rapids in 2002, Crash's Landing has helped more than 2,500 cats. But there is still work to be done.

Each Friday on 100.5 The River is Purrrfect Friday, where we feature a cat from Crash's Landing that needs a home.

This week, we're spotlighting Ava.

On March 11th, 2016 another cat shelter took in Ava. Once they found out she was FIV positive, they knew exactly who to call. Crash's Landing is the only shelter in the area that takes FIV positive cats. Cats come from all over the state, and even other states, to find a home at Big Sid's Sanctuary at Crash's Landing.

Ava arrived at Crash's Landing after just four days. She was matted so badly they needed to call in special help. She had a bilateral ear infection that had been untreated for so long it spread to her middle auditory canals, causing heavy drainage into her nasal passages. She also had a large hernia that was discovered once her layers of tangled fur were expertly shorn.

Ava was born in the fall of 2011 and has seen more than her fair share of trouble and trauma, evidenced by a crumpled left ear and a scarred left eye.

There were many more issues to come, but Ava is ready to be adopted today and we all think it's time to turn her bad luck around!

Please adopt Ava!
