Grand Rapids’ Maurice Townsend Makes Top 30 for ‘American Idol’ [Video]

Maurice Townsend is already getting recognized by fans in Grand Rapids and this is just the beginning.

Townsend has advanced into the Top 30 on Fox's "American Idol."

The announcement came Wednesday night on American Idol.

He sang Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" to advance.

Townsend is among the top 15 men and next performs Feb. 19. Performing on Feb. 18 are the top 15 women. The first live results show for "American Idol" for the season is on Feb. 20.

Townsend has been sharing his emotional journey and receiving support via Twitter all along the way.
