I have written about this before, the closing of Macy stores across the country, but there never has been anything definitive about what will happen to our Grand Rapids stores, and other West Michigan locations.

Good Housekeeping.com reports that Macy's will be closing another 150 stores through 2026.

Macy's describes the stores closing as "underproductive locations," so that is about 33% of Macy's stores, leaving 350 locations remaining around the country.

As I have written before, where does that leave us, Grand Rapids and West Michigan?

Macy's still hasn't released all of the details and locations of the closings, so we are all still up-in-the-air as to the effects on us.

We all know this isn't the first time Macy's has closed stores. The giant retailer has closed 300 stores since 2015 as they continue to shrink their retail footprint and become selective as to which stores to focus on.

Plus, they are going to put more emphasis on their Bloomingdale's stores! Yes, Macy's owns Bloomingdale's.

They actually plan to open more Bloomingdale's locations along with Bluemercury stores which are Macy's luxury brands, the Good Housekeeping article says.

What has happened to Macy's in the first place? The Hudson Valley Post reported:

"The biggest things that have gone wrong at Macy's are the quality of the stores and the product assortment," Retail expert Neil Saunders told the Daily Mail.

So, it still remains to be seen what will happen to our Macy's stores, but one can only hope that they will survive and we won't lose jobs in West Michigan.
