LunaFest is a traveling film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues, highlighting women filmmakers and bringing women together in their communities.

LunaFest gets hosted locally in Grand Rapids by Kent County Girls on the Run at Grand Rapids Art Museum on April 23, with special guest Molly Barker, Girls on the Run founder.

The festival's films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.

Films are selected in a competitive process for the festival, with submissions vying for one of the juried spots in the screening roster of nine films.

The festival is also a fund-raiser, with all Grand Rapids LunaFest proceeds to benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and Kent County Girls on the Run.

The festival includes a 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. April 23 reception, followed by film showings from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, 101 Monroe Center NW in Grand Rapids.

A festival pass is $40 and includes the reception with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.

You can purchase the pass at www.kcgotr.org
