The Detroit Lions signed quarterback Matthew Stafford to a five year contract worth over $135 million, making him the highest paid player in history.

So, does this mean we will win a playoff game soon? I mean it's only been 26 years.

It looks like Matt is getting his Lion's share (pun intended), but Stafford and his team looked seriously overmatched against the class of the league, the New England Patriots, Saturday, so is this deal worth the money?

It depends on who you talk to. Some say YES. Some say NO.

The bottom line is this: The Lions couldn't let him sit too long, and they needed to pay up so they can begin the task of building a team around him. How long that will take is anyone's guess, but let's hope it's less than five years.

By the way, do you know who the previous highest paid player was before Stafford inked his deal?

That would be Oakland/Las Vegas Raider QB Derek Carr.
