Largest Department Store Announces Michigan Closings! What About Grand Rapids?
Sadly, so many times it seems that I'm writing about some of our favorite stores closing, and here we go again.
Back in September I wrote about the closing of Macy stores across the country as Macy's announced they would be closing another 150 stores through 2026.

They weren't specific at the time as to which stores would be closed due to underperformance. They were calling it their "Bold New Chapter."
Of course, we were all worried about our own stores, specifically Woodland Mall and Rivertown Crossings Mall.
Now we know that several Michigan stores will close. Actually, four stores will close.
Oakland Mall in Troy
Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights
Genesee Valley Center in Flint
Grand Traverse Mall in Traverse City
Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights store is still open for the time being. The mall itself closed on July 1, last year, but Macy's remained open according to our sister station WKFR 103.3.
Macy's did say at the time that clearance sales would begin in January and run for approximately 8-12 weeks at the Sterling Heights store.
An article on Good House Keeping.com quoted Chairman and CEO Tony Spring saying:
"Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy's stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go-forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service."
So, for the time being, we can breath a litter easier. Our Woodland Mall and Rivertown Crossings Macy's stores will remain open as they certainly are one of the main anchors of each mall.
