Is Zeeland Finally Ready to Embrace Sunday Funday?
Grand Rapids has been crowned Beer City USA for so many years that I've lost count.

And West Michigan is home to some of the greatest craft beers in the world.
With breweries like Founders, Bells, and Shorts getting love across Michigan and the world, it might come as a surprise to some that there are still places in West Michigan where you can't get a beer on Sunday.
Almost 20 years ago, Zeeland lifted its prohibition on alcohol sales.
Before that happened, Zeeland was one of the last dry cities in Michigan.
The city is still one of the few dry-Sunday communities in Ottawa County.

So imagine the shock to hear that in the not so distant future people in Zeeland could celebrate a Sunday Funday the right way with an ice cold beer.
Zeeland Looking At Options For Sunday Alcohol Sales
Zeeland city Manager Tim Klunder told Wood TV 8 that every few years they take a look at alcohol ordinances.
“Right now it would be hours that we’re reviewing, So would they start at noon, or the state allow alcohol sales at 7 a.m. So you have to make that decision. The decision around would it be packaged sales or just on-site sales. A decision around our social district. … So would we allow the social district to operate on Sundays as well.”
I believe changing the ordinances and bringing them more in line with a majority of the state would be beneficial for local business.
But I'm not holding my breath that these changes will actually happen in Ottawa County anytime soon.
